Arancini/Supplì
Arancini and Supplì are two of the most famous and beloved Italian rice-based specialties, often considered cousins in the world of street food. Both are crispy, golden delights with a rich history, deeply rooted in the Italian culinary tradition. Originally, these delicious treats were created as a way to reuse leftover risotto, combining it with ingredients available in the pantry or fridge.

Arancini – The Sicilian Classic
The arancino (or arancina, depending on the region) originates from Sicily and is believed to be the oldest version. Traditionally shaped like a cone or pyramid, it was commonly prepared in a white version with peas and minced meat. Over time, the shape has evolved into round rice balls of about 100-120g, making them more uniform and easier to eat. The arancino are available with beef ragù & peas, with chicken & peppers with porcino mushrooms & provola cheese and many other varietes.
Supplì – The Roman Surprise
As arancini spread beyond Sicily, they found a new home in Rome, where they took on a unique identity as supplì. The name comes from the French word surprise, referring to the gooey, melted mozzarella hidden inside— a delightful and unexpected surprise when bitten into. Unlike arancini, supplì are shaped like an egg, making them easily distinguishable from their Sicilian cousin. The Supplì are avaiable with mozzarella and tomato, with beef ragù and many other varieties.
